Robotics Academy is a program of the Department of Educational and Social Policy of the University of Macedonia. In its current legal state, it started in September 2015, after 15 years of activities in schools, museums, unofficial places of educations and entertainment, research and cooperation with organizations in Greece and around the world.
The Robotics Academy of the University of Macedonia, as a recipient of numerous suggestion from organizations and private factors to develop and apply the research results, the experience and the new educational material that created all these years, was founded in image of similar academic programs abroad, to combine learning with play in a recreational constructive study.
Scientific Responsible for the Robotics Academy is the assistant professor of the Department of Educational and Social Policy of the University of Macedonia, Nikolaos Fahantidis, whose research is focused on applying robotic technology in social and educational activities in the standard educational procedure, special treatment and life learning since 2000. The educators in the Robotics Academy are comprised of University proffesors, doctorates and doctorate candidates, master’s students that are accompanied by accomplished partners with experience in children’s activities.
The activities of the Robotics Academy of the University of Macedonia are based on research and studies from greek and foreign universities. Our multiannual experience on Educational Robotics activities in conjuncture with university and institute studies with the same area of study, like MIT, Tuft University and Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Academy, results in the proper and full coverance of the subject. Each section is approached in a proper way in order to intrigue children and not tire them. That is why every activity is held in a playful and fun way, so it can provide entertainment as well as knowledge.
Since 2009 members of the Robotics Academy have won significant rewards in domestic, European and global competitions. Indicatively.
In February 2016 the European Union approved a research educational proposal with initials STIMEY in the confines of the program HORIZON 2020, that was graded with excellent mark and was placed first among 207 proposals from all over Europe.
In June 2015 the educational proposal and the robot created was declared the best educational technology in Europe.
In 2014 accomplished the first place in Greece and November of the same year the 10th place in the World Robot Olympiad in Sochi, Russia.
In 2010 and 2012 accomplished the first place in Greece and participated in the World Robot Olympiad In Philippines and Malaysia accordingly.
